fire!
so the roof of the hotel caught fire tonight. the alarm went off as it is wont to do and we all trundled outside to be greeted by ten fire trucks and about 60 firemen. an impressive sight. no one was injured so we had a stoop party for an hour and a bit and we got back in without too much fuss. rico’s baby son roddy was quite a hit with all the lady folk. his big blue scottish/costa rican eyes like tiny tractor beams of benevolence. he didn’t make a beep bless him. cutie pie.

nyc fire service: heroes the lot of them!
anyway back indoors now after the excitement. off to bed. sleep tight tigers.gL
ps, i know i look like i’ve got a really dirty hand there. swear to god it’s a trick of the light. x

Glad all worked out ok, could’ve been a very different outcome. I’m thinking San Francisco, glass elevators, chair lifts and helicopters with Steve McQueen and Paul Newman thrown in for good measure…..Think I may have watched The Towering Inferno one too many times. Is it a wonder I always request a hotel room on the 6th floor or lower?? I’m told the ladders only stretch up that far….

not sure what’s going on with my hair today. left unchecked it may well take over the world. our hotel is just round the corner from the boston state house so if you hear of giant hair attacking a building it’ll probably be my hair and it.

love boston. walked on the common today and listened to the buskers and the people extolling the virtues, brazenly, of both weed and god. two different people mind. although i think weed’ll get you there faster than church but that’s just me. good that there is still a forum for the free exchange of ideas albeit one in which more people run from you than stand and watch.

i watched. but not for long.

we’re getting a tour of the state house tomorrow by representative kevin honan. he came to the show the last time we played boston and some of the guys went then too. i couldn’t as i had an acoustic session but am going tomorrow. this sort of thing is right up my street. i’ll try and keep my hair under control during the tour. i promise nothing though.

we are all one. gL.x

Cut it. Please. Or at the very least, get it thinned out. Or failing that, use serum. It tames even the wildest of manes……

boy was i drunk last night. as the picture of me and ed may have already established. me, ed, richard and JMD went to a bar called macfaddens (i think) last night. they were playing the dropkick murphys when we arrived then alcohol happened.

one of the lovely third bar(ers) gave me some of ireland’s finest Barry’s tea after the show last night. i’ve never needed it more. thank you. you may well have saved my life. face sore from laughing. everything else sore from drinking.

bless your hearts for thoughts of tea and the tenderness of simple human gestures.gL.x

Good to hear you received some golden rescue remedy…nothing beats a cuppa when there’s been a bit too much partying. Well a cuppa and a bacon sarnie, or toast with honey and banana, or an ulster fry….

Not so sure it has to be Barry’s mind, p-p-p-pick Punjana Tea!!!

THE UNPOPULAR OPINION
based on things I have recently seen in the Snow Patrol tag

* Don’t be bitchy to Ed Sheeran fans, because there’s no justifiable reason for that. They’re not obligated to like Snow Patrol just because Ed is supporting them and don’t get all self-righteous about how much work Snow Patrol put into Fallen Empires. Every artist puts a lot of work into their albums. So what if they’re using the SP tag? Ed is on tour with SP - get over it. Get shitty when someone starts spamming the tag with Nickelback and Spice Girls. Jesus. And quite frankly, if you want to be a “decent” Snow Patrol fan, then reflect on how Gary has been ending his tumblr posts of late: peace, love, and understanding. If you think he’d appreciate you shitting on fans of other artists, you’re probably wrong and should step away from tumblr for five minutes.

* Don’t be creepy and announce that you want to lick Gary’s sweat. First of all, that’s disgusting because I’m pretty sure he has perspiration issues, second, that’s just not sanitary, finally? That’s just embarrassing. I know we all like to think that he’s a great human being that we all want to bone, but just remember he used to be a drunk who cheated on his girlfriend and god only knows if he’s as reformed as you think he is. Look no further than Chocolate.

Honestly, most of you seem really lovely and nice, and not at all creepy, but the outright hostility towards Ed fans (calling them dickdouches) is just unnecessary. I’ll probably lose some followers over this, but I felt like it needed to be said. Tumblr is pretty intuitive to use and there is no guaranteeing that Gary hasn’t figured out how to use the search function. Stop being an embarrassment to the rest of the Snow Patrol fans.

lost and found

oliver jeffers book is a wonder and philip hunt’s animated short adaptation is may favourite short film of all time. so beautiful. about friendship and love and bravery and ones place in the world. magical. and the music is sublime too. my little four year old niece honey loves it as do i, as does my mum. any age and it hits you where you live. not many things do that. it gives me so much joy. one of the true wonders of the world is a movie that take your breath away. gL.x

My 5 year old daughter adores this book, as do I. She loves all kinds of books but always comes back to this one. The short film was her first ever DVD and is watched regularly. A beautiful film for all ages. Such a simple story, the little penguin just wants a friend. It makes me blub, particularly after the boy leaves the penguin at the south pole and has rowed away, only to realise the penguin just wanted to be his friend. So beautiful.

i can hover: belfast

Belfast is buzzing….for real this time!  Fantastic that the spotlight of the world is on our lovely wee city for all the right reasons.  Fingers crossed all goes off without a hitch.

If the temperature this evening is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a mighty cold one - tis baltic out there!!  Am prepared, thermals are at the ready, it’s going to be a brilliant night :D

icanhover:

so we’re home and belfast is of course hosting the mtv emas this year and the place is mad. kids camping outside of hotels in the hope that justin beiber is staying there and a general sense of excitement and joy abound. belfast has never seen anything like it. we play a show outside the city hall…

Fantasy Football

Have just spent the last 2 hours ‘selecting’ my dream team for this season.  I say ‘selecting’….like I know what I’m talking about.

Was driving everyone around me nuts asking about different players’ form last season, susceptibility to injury and their likelihood to play regularly.  Then there’s deciding if I have the budget to cover the good ones.  Such a headache.

So instead, have made my team up from player’s who’s names I recognise and filling the remaining spaces with the cheap ones, and only those who play in nice kits.  Oh dear……the adage “women know your limits” springs to mind. ;)

called out in the dark video

Absolutely love the video, still laughing just thinking about it!.  Such a feel good video which is a very welcome change!  Think it’s exactly right for the song…what else could have been done??  Really love how Gary is able to take the piss out of himself what with the dancing, the leaping across the ‘stage’, facial expressions…all of it, total genius. :)))

icanhover:

so here it is.

read some comments below it already (why did i do that?!). yikes! lovely people, this is supposed to be funny. no need to be taken so seriously. having some fun with our videos from now on. unless the song doesn’t lend itself to joking around a bit then we’ll not go there of course.

i had loads of fun doing this and will do similar again.

peace, love and understanding.gL

The total offerings from my strawberry plant this year…  Bangor’s summer not great at facilitating growth this year.  Woeful.  Can’t even bring myself to pick the ripe ones, the wee plant would be left looking totally bare. Better luck next year I hope!

Bangor skies earlier this morning. A quiet shift for air traffic control??
